The app needs a data connection for the first load of an area; afterwards the last successful pass is cached on-device. Offshore, expect the connection chip to read "Out of range" beyond ~30 nm — that is normal. Load your fishing area at the dock before you leave.
The "Sat pass" chip shows the exact satellite date being displayed. SST is typically 1 day old; chlorophyll is a multi-day composite so it stitches over clouds.
The readout is the nearest native satellite cell (about 1 km for SST, 4 km for chlorophyll) — no interpolation. Coastal pixels are blended for display only and never reported as measurements.
